Purchase, NY– October 14, 2015 – Today marks a key milestone in the evolution of digital payments as Capital One has announced the addition of contactless mobile payment capability to its Android Capital One Wallet app. Leveraging the MasterCard Digital Enablement Service (MDES), Capital One is enabling mobile payments directly for its customers through a bank hosted experience.
Bringing this functionality to life required an extensive and integrated partnership with MasterCard and Capital One in order to to drive a new approach to device-based payments that will serve as the foundation for how MasterCard enables the next generation of payments for issuers. By further extending the scope of the MDES platform, issuers can now deliver a more holistic digital customer experience.
MasterCard is transforming what you think you know about mobile payments with the announcement of a new program that will bring MasterCard payments to a wide array of consumer products across the auto, fashion, tech, wearables, and yet-to-be-imagined categories. This new functionality offers more choices to people, empowering them to make contactless payments with their favorite device. Capital One is the first issuer to embrace this innovative technology.
“We are always looking for new ways to enhance the consumer payment experience by offering tools and pioneering technologies focused on ecommerce and mobile accessibility,” said Tom Poole, Managing Vice President, Digital Payments at Capital One. “We are excited about the potential this new initiative and other new payment options hold as we work to offer more choices to help make our customers’ lives easier.”
