GLOBAL FINTECH LEADERS COME TO TORONTO
Canadian company Carta Worldwide hosts Mobey Day Toronto, December 7 to 8
Toronto, ON, November 18, 2016 – Global innovators and influencers in the payment and financial technology (fintech) industry are set to converge in Toronto, December 7 to 8, as Canadian fintech leader Carta Worldwide and Mobey Forum hosts the first North American Mobey Day at the Four Seasons Toronto (60 Yorkville Avenue). Originally an annual event in Barcelona, Mobey Day will bring together some of the world’s top fintech leaders from companies such as PayPal, Transferwise, SecureKey, World First, Visa, and Mastercard. These innovators will meet with a common goal: to understand how to change consumer behaviour through new mobile payment
experiences.
“We at Carta Worldwide are thrilled to be working with internationally renowned Mobey Forum and bring Mobey Day to North America,” explains Giles Sutherland, Vice President Strategic Alliances of Carta Worldwide, a leading issuing processor used by major banks and digital payment providers around the world. “Toronto is definitely a new fintech hub on the world’s stage, and we can only expect this position to grow even stronger after Mobey Day. Mobey Day is going to be an inspiring conference focused on changing banking for the better through advancement and smart integration.”
Fintech is currently one of the fastest growing segments in the banking world as more and more businesses shift towards mobile payments, in addition to opportunities created by artificial intelligence to predict consumer behaviour. For example, one of the advances that could be discussed next month is on-demand insurance technology and how InsurTech is integrating with FinTech.
Mobey Day also hopes to activate innovation among millennials with a contest: the Visa Bank of the Future UI/UX Challenge. Campus-linked accelerators, incubators, university and college students, regional innovation centres, UI/UX specialists and designers are all invited to design a completely new banking and payment app that integrates a suite of Visa Developer APIs. The winning team collects a cash prize of $15,000 and the potential chance to work with Visa to build a prototype of the winning submission with the Visa Developer Program.
“The future of banking will need to constantly adapt and accommodate new innovations,” said Derek Colfer, Head of Digital Innovation, Visa Canada. “MobeyDay is a great platform that provides exposure on a global level, and the Visa ‘Bank of
the Future’ UI/UX competition, enabled by Visa Developer will be a great opportunity to showcase local innovation and talent.”Mobey Day registration is free for all existing Mobey Forum members and $1,200 ($900 early bird price until November 25) for non-members.
