The joint venture between CaixaBank, Santander and Telefonica has been show green light by the European Commission. The European Commission found that “there are sufficient credible alternative issuers of payments cards in Spain, therefore allowing competing digital wallet providers to continue offering peer-to-peer payments services either on a stand-alone basis or by partnering with financial institutions”. The joint venture between the Spanish companies, announced in May, will offer consumers digital services, including a mobile wallet.
